SUMMARY:Coastal Plein Air Art & Wine Festival - 2025
DESCRIPTION:Florence Regional Arts Alliance (FRAA) is very excited to host our 4th Annual Coastal Plein Air Art & Wine Festival to be held at the Florence Events Center (715 Quince St\, Florence). \n\n\n\nArtists from Oregon and neighboring states will paint at coastal locations “plein air” (meaning outside and on location in one sitting) between Lincoln City and Bandon for two weeks prior to the festival. Last year you could see artists painting at Darlingtonia\, Jerry’s Place\, Old Town locations\, Woahink Lake\, Cleawox Lake and many other local places. If you see artists painting at outside locations between September 3rd and 18th\, make sure you say hi and ask them about their painting. They love to share their passion for plein air painting. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nRegistration:Info packet goes out:Painting on the Coast:Artwork Drop Off Date:Artist Reception:Art & Wine Festival:Art Pickup: \n\n\n\n\n\nJune 4 – August 15by September 6September 3-18September 19September 19September 20-21September 21 (evening) \n\n\n\n\n\nThe Festival on September 20th and 21st will display and have for sale the artists artwork which they painted during the previous two weeks. Walker as our Judge for this event. \n\n\n\nJordan K Walker is an award winning landscape painter\, illustrator\, and teacher based in Eugene\, Oregon. His work explores the complex and varied landscapes of the American West.  \n\n\n\nWith painting gear in hand\, Jordan hikes through the wild spaces of western North America and creates studies to better understand his surroundings. Intense examples of light and atmosphere\, as well as a sense of the geological timescale of his favorite subjects are important elements in his work. He is continually drawn to the timeless drama of stormy skies\, churning Pacific tides\, steep alpine slopes\, and ancient forests. Increasingly\, he has found inspiration in the arid steppe of the Great Basin region\, where incredible rock spires emerge from blankets of sage and juniper. \n\n\n\nIn the studio\, Jordan uses his studies and photographic reference gathered in the wild to compose immersive paintings. He strives to communicate the power and beauty of his subjects through the use of dynamic compositions\, expressive brushstrokes\, and unexpected color contrasts. \n\n\n\nJordan’s work has been shown in galleries and museums across the United States\, including the National Museum of Wildlife Art\, Steamboat Art Museum\, CFD Old West Museum\, Maryhill Museum of Art\, and the Bowers Museum. Many of his paintings are held in private collections around the globe.  \n\n\n\nwww.jordankwalkerart.com

SUMMARY:Seascape Plein Air Workshop with Jordan K. Walker
DESCRIPTION:During the intensive 6 hour workshop along the majestic Oregon Coast we will explore the essential principles of plein air painting; including composition\, value\, atmosphere\, and color. The cliffs and sea stacks of Heceta Head will serve as our setting for the day\, and instructor Jordan K. Walker will begin the workshop with a lively painting demonstration. He’ll showcase the possibilities of a full split primary palette while describing the structure of rock faces\, and the anatomy of waves. After a short lunch break\, students will take what they’ve learned and work to capture the scale and energy of our inspiring surroundings. While our focus will be on the principles of landscape painting\, this class will also cover oil painting techniques such as paint application\, edge control\, and working from thin to thick. \n\n\n\nSupply list available here for easy reference. It is also listed below. \n\n\n\n$185(4 student minimum / 10 student maximum)Prior painting experience is preferred. \n\n\n\nPre-registration is required. Register in person\, via phone or online. Payment required when registering. Click here to register for this class online \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease Bring:\n\n\n\nSketchbook – Inexpensive sketchbook or drawing pad 6” x 8” or larger (feel free to bring a sketchbook you’ve already started) \n\n\n\nDrawing Pencil – HB  (I recommend Tombow Mono pencils\, but any brand will do! You may also want to bring a portable pencil sharpener) \n\n\n\nOil Paint Essentials– I prefer M. Graham brand paint\, but feel free to bring paint you may have in other brands.  This is a split primary palette of colors that will allow you to mix nearly every color in nature. \n\n\n\n\nTitanium While\n\n\n\nAzo Yellow\n\n\n\nIndian Yellow\n\n\n\nPyroll Red\n\n\n\nAlizarin Crimson\n\n\n\nBurnt Umber\n\n\n\nUltramarine Blue\n\n\n\nPthalo Blue or Prussian Blue\n\n\n\n\nPalette – Paper or glass Palette (9” x 12” or larger) \n\n\n\nPalette Knife – RGM #20 or #21 \n\n\n\nBrushes – synthetic or hog bristle (Connoisseur brand recommended) Flat #10\, Flat #6 and Flat #0. I recommend ‘Guerrilla Painter’ brand or ‘Stradaeasel’ brand\, but there are lots of good options! (a google search for ‘plein air setup’ will give you a good idea of some available options.) \n\n\n\nChair (Optional) – you may want to bring a lightweight folding chair if you’re not using a standing easel. \n\n\n\nTable (Optional) – if your easel or pochade box does not have resting space for your paint and palette\, you may want to bring a small collapsible table to set up beside you that can hold these. \n\n\n\nCleanup – Masters Brush Cleaner and Preserver – plastic zip-lock or trash bags to hold used paint rags and other trash \n\n\n\nFood – This is a long class\, and you may want to bring lunch or snacks to eat during breaks. \n\n\n\n-‘Beaux Arts’ in Florence is an excellent art store on the coast \n\n\n\n– Or Bring this supply list into the ‘Oregon Art Supply’ in Eugene when shopping to get a 20% discount. \n\n\n\n–If you have any questions about what to bring\, you can send Jordan an email at jkwalkerart@gmail.com. \n\n\n\n________________________________________________________________ \n\n\n\nAbout Jordan:\n\n\n\nJordan K Walker is an award winning landscape painter\, illustrator\, and teacher based in Eugene\, Oregon. His work explores the complex and varied landscapes of the American West.  \n\n\n\nWith painting gear in hand\, Jordan hikes through the wild spaces of western North America and creates studies to better understand his surroundings.
